SING! TEXAS presents
SING! THE AUSTIN VOCAL ARTS FESTIVAL, Saturday, October 25, 2014, at the Long Center in Austin, Texas.
Choral, barbershop, vocal jazz and contemporary a cappella join forces for a day of workshops, masterclasses and demonstrations by exceptional artists and expert presenters.
In addition to international recording artists, Straight No Chaser, and homegrown Texas talent, Chorus Austin, A Cappella Texas, the Austonettes and Paradigm, we welcome SING! Toronto artists, The Nylons, The O'Pears and Alissa Vox Raw. In support of the Toronto-Austin Music City Alliance, we are pleased to feature the best in Toronto vocal music.
Festival attendees will receive exclusive access to a behind the scenes Q&A with Straight No Chaser. Educational presentations, live demonstrations and interactive panels will explore a wide range of topics for amateur and professional singers alike, such as vocal warmups, audition strategies, promoting your group, unlocking your vocal potential, the business of music, how to sound check, beat boxing, live looping, and more.
Choral music enthusiasts will enjoy a pre-festival concert featuring Chorus Austin, Friday, October 24 at 8:00 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church. There will be a repeat performance on Saturday, October 25 at 8:00 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. Chorus Austin is celebrating their 50th season and we are proud to partner with them on this special occasion.

Anyone can sing. Most people can even sing well with some practice. But few people can turn heads like a skilled vocal percussionist. Get ready to become a beatboxing viral video sensation, with some help from Austin's own John Pointer, rhythmagician for the House Jacks.

In this crash course marketing session, discover how to leverage the Internet, social media, website, e-mail and more to promote your image and your events, and discuss best practices in attracting and retaining members.
HOW TO SOUND CHECK: Setting Up Audio for Live Performance (Paul Ryan)
Having great sound is crucial to the success of your performance. Learn from Paul Ryan, Manager of iconic a cappella pioneers, the Nylons, how to prepare your sound system and stage monitors to achieve your comfort level and provide a great audience experience.
LIVE LOOPING (Alissa Vox Raw)
Technology has become a major factor in our everyday lives, and as it changes, these changes are reflected in our lifestyles as well as in our music. Join Alissa Vox Raw as she discusses the relatively new but increasingly popular art of (vocal) looping and demonstrates the different ways it can be applied.

Learn from the experts on how to develop, brand, book, tour and pay for your group or show. Learn about intellectual property (trademarks, copyrights), contracts and rider. Clinicians include Jamie Grant, Executive Director and CEO of the Long Center; performer/award-winning Canadian agent Patricia Silver; and Texas marketing consultant Brett Abbott.
UNLOCK YOUR VOCAL POTENTIAL (Clearly Vocal)
Join members of award-winning jazz/pop quintet, Clearly Vocal, for a fun, interactive workshop designed to help you overcome whatever is holding you back vocally.
VOCAL WARMUPS (The O’Pears)
Canadian Folk Trio The O'Pears will lead participants in a group warmup to start the morning with happy and healthy voices. Through a series of exercises, each participant will use their entire body to stretch, breathe and sing. This warmup workshop aims to prepare each vocalist for a day filled with song.

SING! Texas is associated with a family of festivals started by SING! The Toronto Vocal Arts Festival. Designed to celebrate vocal artists both local and international, with a focus on a cappella music, we are joined in collaboration by the same goals: to illustrate that the voice knows no limits. SING! festivals have brought together tens of thousands of music lovers, singers, educators, conductors, and tourists to experience some of the most innovative and exciting vocal artists from a multiplicity of backgrounds and styles. In short, we have come together to give new voice to the voice.
